The proof of the electrical characteristics of a power generating unit (PGU) and a power generating plant (PGP) are the prerequisite for the connection of a PGP to the electrical supply grid. WIND-consult carries out these measurements of the electrical characteristics as a accredited measuring institute.

Benefits of the test results:

  • Provision of measurement results and parameters for model validation and certification of PGUs
  • Planning security for customers, manufacturers, and energy supply companies (utilities)
  • Prevention of adverse effects on other grid users
  • Functional testing of the protection mechanisms of PGUs and PGFs
  • Further development of plant technology

BASICS OF METHODE

The power quality measurements offered by WIND-consult are based on valid national and international standards and guidelines e.g.:

  • Technical Guidelines for Power Generating Units and Systems, Part 3: "Determination of the electrical characteristics of power generating units and systems on medium, high and extra-high voltage grids" (FGW e.V.)
  • DIN EN 61400 Wind turbines – Part 21: "Measurement and assessment of power quality characteristics of grid-connected wind turbines" (IEC/ DIN)

MEASURING RANGE

The determination of electrical characteristics is based on a 3-phase current and voltage measurement. With these data and the primary supply statements can make about the following point:

Performance characteristics
Determination of active-, reactive- and apparent power and power factor

Power quality characteristics
Determination of Flicker, Harmonics and Switching operations

Grid protection / Grid code
Testing of grid protection
In accordance with national and international grid codes a PGP must have certain capabilities of power limiting and reactive power control. When the power lines (FRT), they must actively support the grid. The WIND-consult creates concepts for measuring compliance with current grid code. Through a cooperation agreement with the windtest Grevenbroich GmbH, we are able to offer our customers the necessary test units for these tests.
