Measurements of the power performance conforming to standards offer important information about the efficiency of a wind turbine for manufacturers, customers, operators and project developers.

So is, for instance, the power curve an important prerequisite for the preparation of dependable energy production predictions and for the calculation of reference energy productions corresponding to the Renewable Energy Sources Act – EEG.

Moreover, the manufacturer can optimize the turbine type precisely by means of measurements of the power performance and the owner receives information if the turbine possesses the guaranteed power and production characteristics.

The determination of the power performance of wind turbines offered by WIND-consult is based on valid national and international standards and guidelines:

  • DIN EN 61400-12-1 "Measurement of the power performance of a wind turbine"
  • MEASNET "Power performance measurement procedure"
  • FGW Technical Guidelines for Wind Turbines, Part 2: "Determination of power curve and standardised energy yields"
  • FGW Technical Guidelines for Wind Turbines, Part 5: "Determination and application of the reference yield"
  • Danish Guideline (Risø-I-745 (EN))
  • Dutch Guideline (ECN-217)

WIND-consult carries out measurements of the power performance of wind turbines according to the quality criteria of MEASNET and FGW (conformity seal) and is listed for measurements according to the Danish guideline in Denmark.

For the determination of the wind speed at hub height of the wind turbine a meteorological measuring mast is erected at the site. A data logger records the meteorological quantities of wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, air pressure and precipitation as well as the systems parameters active power and status.

The used anemometers are calibrated in the wind tunnel according to the MEASNET guideline and all other sensors are adjusted with DAkkS-calibrated reference devices. Likewise a calibration of all inputs of the data logger with DAkkS-calibrated signal transmitters is carried out.
